Bounced around the globe as a child - banker's brat, not military. Came back to the Chicago area at 11, been living in the 'burbs ever since. I worked in retail and then some office jobs. After surviving cancer (Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma), I decided that I was sick and tired of the entry-level office shtick and went back to school full time. I finally got my Bachelor's degree in October 2005, and I went straight on to Grad school for a Masters in Library Science. In 2004 I started dating the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Books: I am a voracious reader, mostly sci-fi and fantasy. Favorite authors are Lois McMaster Bujold and Elizabeth Moon. Life-long faves are: L Frank Baum (my username came from a character in his last OZ book), Anne McCaffrey, Goscinny & Uderzo (Asterix comics). Since I've been back in school, I started listening to audiobooks (thank heavens for public libraries & inter-library loans!), and have dabbled a bit in mystery - listened to all the "Cat who..." books, some mainstream fiction and some classics - love the Jane Austen novels.
Movies/TV: Genres are much like books. I follow StarGate - SG1 & Atlantis, the new Battlestar Galactica (though I will always be fond of the original BSG). I love the A&E Pride & Prejudice and the Emma Thompson Sense & Sensibility. Because I lived in Japan as a child I've always had an interest in Anime, but hadn't been able to explore that interest until recently.
Hobbies and other interests: I enjoy games. I've played RPGs and enjoy many table-top games. I'm not as fond of computer games, but that's more because I'd rather spend that kind of time in other ways. I enjoy counted cross-stitch, and have made a few attempts at knitting and beading. I'm not quite a foodie, but I love well prepared and/or tasty food, so it's a good thing that I am good at cooking and baking.
